A client required an external microprocessor supervisory circuit that would send a 1 second (low) reset pulse to their microprocessor after 3 minutes of no processor activity. The client will make the final determination of what signals they will monitor; multiple signals can be OR'd into this solution.

Using inexpensive, off-the-shelf components this prototype is edge-triggered and is selectable for low-to-high or high-to-low logic transitions. The client may also select the desired output pulse state; either pulse low (default) or pulse high in addition to setting the timeout and pulse width lengths. Input voltage is wide at 3-18VDC.

The prototype circuit includes Continue reading...

Bringing a product successfully to market requires a series of precise steps meticulously executed from a master plan.

Your idea must eventually become something that you and others can hold in your hands.You need a prototype.

With your prototype;

  • Your idea becomes a proven concept
  • Manufacturing costs can be determined
  • Optimization opportunities present themselves
  • You gain a major sense of accomplishment toward seeing your vision become a reality

Historically, creating a one-off, single unit, prototype can be a very expensive process. However, with the advent of 3D modeling CAD/CAM systems, 3D Printing, and a host of other RAPID manufacturing processes and services, the cost of turning your idea into a reality has become affordable. Bariatric surgery (weight loss surgery) includes a variety of procedures performed on people who are obese. Weight loss is achieved by reducing the size of the stomach with a gastric band, through removal of a portion of the stomach, or by resecting and re-routing the small intestines to a small stomach pouch (gastric bypass surgery).

Change in eating habits for patients who have had bariatric surgery is critical continue reading...

"Ever contact a company via phone where the voice prompt gave you no choice to proceed regarding your specific need? You have become an outlier in a logistical design…"

Much of my professional life falls into the category of process improvement, and I also consider myself a strategic designer. So, I can usually recognize quite quickly a logistical design or logistical process as the chief cause of the frustration I am experiencing with a vendor’s system I am required to use. The logistical design (mindset) errs greatly against continue reading...
